It seems like every game on the docket for this weekend is big. In an odd coincidence, the number 1 team in the West (LA) faces the number 2 team in the East (NY) while the number 1 team in the East (Columbus) meets the number 2 team in the West (Real Salt Lake). Did you get that? Good. And you’ll have to keep an eye on surging FC Dallas and Seattle who are looking to gain ground on LA and Real Salt Lake in the tough & tight Western Conference.

Jason & Simon touch on all of that plus preview the opening round of the 2010/11 EPL season in today’s edition of The Daily.

In today’s episode of the The Daily, Greg and Jason discuss all the day’s dish and the fallout from last night’s USMNT friendly in New Jersey. They also preview tonight’s MLS matches between New York & Toronto and Philadelphia & Real Salt Lake.

Both of these matches are huge for their respective teams as there are significant points on the line. With a win over the Red Bulls, Toronto would grab second place in the East while 3 points for RSL would put them well within striking distance of LA at the top of the West. To add another layer of intrigue, both of these matches have implications for Saturday’s sold-out affair between New York and LA as both sides may find themselves clawing to retain their position in their respective conferences with a loss tonight. Things are heating up, aren’t they?

In Friday’s installment of The Daily, Nick & Greg recap last night’s buffet of MLS-related matches. With Superliga, friendly, and good, old-fashioned league action all on the table Thursday there’s a lot to relive. They also make time to look ahead to this weekend’s upcoming matches, including the big DP showdown in Chicago on Sunday and Ben Olsen’s debut as D.C. United’s head coach.

Without a doubt the sacking of Curt Onalfo in D.C. is the news of the day so it’s more than a fitting story to kick off today’s installment of The Daily. Jason & Simon don’t say too much about it but Simon does a little speculating that Bob Bradley may be on the club’s radar as a replacement. There are also bits on Columbus’ search for a forward, last night’s CONCACAF Champions League action, LA’s odds in Puerto Rico tonight and Superliga.

In today’s episode of The Daily, Jason asks “what is going on with the Los Angeles Galaxy?” I wish I had an answer but I bet Bruce Arena wishes even more that he had one. In their last 2 games -one in CONCACAF Champions League and one in league play- the Western Conference leaders have given up a shocking 7 goals while scoring only 3 goals…2 of which came from PK’s while the other was an own goal.

Somewhere in Utah, Real Salt Lake are sharpening the studs on their cleats for a Western Conference title-run.

Gameday has finally arrived to All Star week. We’re less than 12 hours away from the big event and with a full house of 70,000 expected at Reliant Stadium tonight the excitement is palpable throughout the All Star hotel. Jason & Simon just shot the The Daily down in the lobby and broke down tonight’s match and looked back at the Galaxy’s unbelievable -and not in a good way- CONCACAF Champions League loss; hopefully the players representing the Galaxy against Manchester United will have a better night tonight than last night.

Today Jason & Greg bring us The Daily from the busy confines of the hotel lobby in Houston and talk All Star chemistry. With only a few days for the players to get familiar with each other (both on & off the field) the team will have to take full advantage of the handful of training sessions allotted to them. I’ll let Greg & Jason tell you, but let’s just say that yesterday’s practice wasn’t the most intense affair; this could shape up to be a very friendly friendly.

Revs fans take note as today’s edition of The Daily is very New England heavy. With another win in Superliga play the Revs seem to be poised to break out of the funk that has plagued them in recent MLS play and, as Simon surmises, it all started from the back. On a downer though, the Steve Ralston era at Gillette is over-over this time and Simon also has a few things to say about that as well. All that, Superliga, Manchester United, player transfers and more here on The Daily.
