Kansas City President Says Luis Gil Going To RSL

Moments ago Wizards President Robb Heinemann revealed via Twitter that the team has brokered a deal to trade the rights to Luis Gil to Real Salt Lake. In exchange for rights to the highly touted U-17 midfielder, Kansas City will receive a second round draft pick, an international slot and a percentage of the any future transfer fee. The Wizards were initially hoping to keep Gil but were able to deal him to the reigning MLS Cup champions who are reported to have also acquired U-20 right back Sheanon Williams.

MLS Signs U.S. U-17 Player Luis Gil

MLS Insider has just received word that U.S. U-17 player Luis Gil has signed with Major League Soccer. The 16 year-old forward, who in the past has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Real Madrid amongst others, will join an MLS club via weighted lottery on 2.22.10.

A skillful, California-born midfielder, the 16 year-old appeared in 18 international games and logged 1477 minutes in 2009. Additionally he netted four goals and four assists and was voted U.S. Soccer’s Young Player of the Year. To learn more about Luis Gil check out his profile from U.S. Soccer.
