Dilly Duka: “Pre-Season Was a Wake-Up Call”

The transition between the college game and professional soccer can sometimes be a tricky to maneuver; if circumstances are not ideal it’s not unusual for a school-boy stud to find himself in the unenviable position of MLS dud.

For Coulmbus Crew rookkie Dilly Duka it’s a scenario that he is working hard to avoid. But to hear him tell it, his early days as an MLS player have been “a wake up call.” Speaking to CrewVision, the former Rutgers Univeristy standout and Red Bull New York academy midfielder testified to the higher level of play and players at the professional level.

“Throughout pre-season I noticed the intensity is much higher than I am used to” said Duka. “Compared to college, there’s just better players.” And with an increase in the level of playing ability comes an increase in competition for playing time. “In college you have a couple of good players on the team but you know you have your spot. Here you have 24 guys battling and everyone is very talented.”
