PGE Park Renovation Renderings Revealed

BY SHAWN FRANCIS
Today PortlandMLS2011.com revealed new digital renderings of a renovated-for-MLS PGE Park. Originally built in 1921 (and most recently refurbished in 2001) the downtown ballpark currently plays host to college football and AAA baseball as well as Portland Timbers soccer but is slated to undergo a permanent transformation from a baseball configuration to a soccer/football configuration in 2010. Among the scheduled upgrades are a 3,600-seat grandstand on the park’s East side with a new-look roof, a team store and a 5,200 sq ft Club Restaurant. Sure, it’s only a CAD drawing but you can’t help but smile when you imagine what the real, packed & passionate thing will be like.
For more details and to see the rest of the renderings check out the PGE Park Renovation page at PortlandMLS2011.com.

Looks cool, but the artificial surface is truly a shame.
I totally agree. There must be real grass on the pitch
Artificial pitch? What is it with you Pacific Northwest folks? I understand it rains a lot there.. but come on.
Aside from the fact that it’s hideous compared to real grass, it has resulted in many injuries already in the first year at Qwest Field. Ask a certain San Jose Earthquakes defender how he feels about it, or any of the other people who have been injured because it’s not as forgiving as grass and grabs spikes.
Horrible.
Get some real grass, PLEASE. This is not a fad we want to see spread in the MLS.
BEAUTIFUL! And it is nice to have some new looks to the stadiums. Now it is time to give a moderate raise to players’ salaries to keep the good ones here and keep the stadiums full, and keep the real grass!
