Former Sueño MLS Winner Debuts for River Plate

BY SHAWN FRANCIS
Soccer America has an interesting read this morning about 2008 Sueño MLS winner Gabriel Funes. The former Arlington (TX) High School standout who once scored a staggering 35 goals in one season made his debut for legendary Argentine side River Plate this past weekend in a 3-1 loss to Velez Sarsfield. I won’t steal all of SA’s thunder by rehashing any more details from the piece but I will instead encourage you to read it for yourself; it’s one hell of a story.
Now, who would like to be the first person to write “Cap him now” in all caps with three exclamation points in the comments?

I would hope that he would want to play for the US but if he is playing for River at 18, he might be good enough to make it into Argentina’s national team. US can always hope but if you had your choice, what would you do?
Does he have a choice? Is he eligible for both the US and Argentina?
CAP HIM NOW!!!
(honestly, i’m disappointed it took three comments for this to happen)
We need an English-language Sueno on tv, too.
No we don’t need an English-language Sueno English speaking kids have the ODP Spanish speaking kids don’t.
We need to keep kids like this in MLS.
CAP HIM January 23 or lose him forever, Bob.
