What’s the real value of Landon Donovan’s clutch goal against Algeria? MLS Insider collaborator The Sheriff ran the numbers based on figures released in Gary Hopkins revealing new book, Star-Spangled Soccer: The Selling, Marketing and Management of Soccer in the USA, and sent in the following note:

If Donovan didn’t score the goal, the players would each walk away with $101,925.65. But because of the goal by Donovan, and if the players do not advance further, they each get $241,490.86….A DIFFERENCE OF $139,565.21!!! Somebody better buy the man a steak!!!

That’s big money and more than a years salary for a few of the players. So if you happen to know a member of the USMNT expect a good gift this holiday season because when the goals flow the dollars flow.

    findley, what about edson buddle, he just made his next 10 yr. salary haha and he will never ever play in a wc cup game, thats like 50,000 100,000 for every 10 mins he played
