On the Phone with Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen
BY SHAWN FRANCIS
If you know your contemporary American punk icons, you probably know Lars Frederiksen of Rancid. And if you have no idea who Rancid are at the bare minimum you’re probably familiar with their 90’s alt-radio staple “Ruby Soho”. What you may not know is that Lars, the son of a Danish immigrant with a former keeper for a grandfather, is a massive football junkie (he doesn’t use the term “soccer”) and a die-hard San Jose Earthquakes supporter. He’s also down with Millwall, Nick Rimando (who isn’t these days?) and claiming his haircut back from David Beckham.
Be sure to keep your browser locked on MLS Insider. Coming soon: a conversation with Rancid drummer and Real Salt Lake supporter Brandon Steineckert.

A childhood hero of mine. Had no idea he was an MLS supporter, or a soccer supporter in general.
I’m just glad they talked to a member of Rancid who is understandable and talented. (Read: not Tim Armstrong)
