Red Bull Arena Takes Center Stage

BY SHAWN FRANCIS

This week will mark the opening of Red Bull New York’s new state-of-the-art stadium in Harrison, NJ. It will also signal a new beginning for the franchise and a new chapter in the history of Major League Soccer. In addition to the Grand Opening match against Robihno’s Santos on Saturday (6:30pm EST, MSG HD, FSC) Red Bull Arena will feature heavily in two other broadcasts this week.

Tonight at 7:30pm EST, MSG+’s The Game 365 will air “Red Bulls: Home Sweet Home”, a thirty minute look inside Red Bull Arena and the 2010 campaign. Join host Fran Healy as he explores the new stadium and talks about the new-look team. ““Without a doubt Red Bull Arena is the best new building in the world”, says MLS Commissioner Don Garber. “This isn’t just great for Major League Soccer, but there will not be another building of this size that can compare anywhere, in Europe, in Latin America, in Asia.”

Then on Friday March 19, Fox Soccer Channel will premiere 2010 MLS Season Preview from Red Bull Arena at 8pm EST. The hour-long program –the only program of its kind among MLS’s national broadcast partners– will look at the top story lines to watch for 2010 on location at the new 25,000 seat and give fans an insider’s look at this architecturally-stunning, $200-million soccer cathedral.

  2. Can’t wait to visit on Saturday!!! Go REDBULLS!!!

  3. New stadium or not I will not travel from Deer Park Long Island to support a team named after a energy drink….

  4. is this streaming anywhere on the internet? don’t live in the NYC area and thus do not get MSG but am interested in seeing “behind the scenes” of RBA.

  5. @George – best stadium in the MLS? First off…it’s not a stadium, it’s an arena. Big difference…namely in capacity. Second, there’s this little place in the MLS called Qwest Field. On any given match day there are 32,000 people in the stands…12,000 more than RBA’s capacity. Oh yeah….QWest sold out 32,000 season tickets for the 2010 MLS season (which may not happen…:( ) which translates to 36,000 predicted for 2010 matches. QWest made the Top 50 attendance list for soccer venues worldwide in 2009. While I think RBA is a great and even pretty park….and a great thing for the Red Bulls and MLS….it’s certainly not the greatest. That honor undeniably belongs to QWest Field.

  6. John Taylor, stay home and play on your computer. djebam, QWest Field is an american football stadium. Yes, you’ll have more fans, but you won’t have a better place to watch a match. Can’t wait for Saturday!

  7. Red Bull arena AKA the Cathedral of football
