On the Phone With Collins John

BY SHAWN FRANCIS

Earlier this morning, the Chicago Fire announced the signing of 24-year old Dutch forward Collins John. The former Fulham F.C. and Dutch national team striker has been on trial with the club since February 4 and joins the Fire as a free agent. John will be officially added to the roster pending receipt of his P1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are very excited to have Collins join the Chicago Fire,” said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas. “Collins is a talented player and he will be a great addition to the club. He is a quick and powerful forward with a nose for goal and we believe he will be a good fit to the attacking style we will play this season.”

Speaking to John this morning just before his signing was made public, he also expressed excitement about coming to Chicago, finding his form again and reuniting with former Fulham strike partner Brian McBride, who he calls “one of the most important soccer players in history”. “It’s great to be back playing with Brian again”, said an almost reverential John, “and I’m looking forward to playing with him up front again”.

  1. Is that Collins John Or Sacha Baron Cohen?

  2. That was great! Many thanks from this Fire fan.

    Cheers.

  3. Dude, these phone interviews are terrible. You say you’re not a reporter yet you keep popping up and sucking.

  4. This is great! So lucky to have this pro with the club. Can hardly wait to see Collins on the pitch with McBride and Nyarko! Go Fire!

  5. I hope Collins will do well at Fire. The last couple of years he hasn’t shown his potential. As a seventeen year old he came on as a promising youngster, but like he says the last years he had some problems with his form. But he also had some personal problems. It seemed he was more interested in night clubs than playing football lately. Because of that he was to heavy and stuff. He is a guy that needs to hang on to his family to perform and that might be a problem as his family still lives in Holland.
