Preki Speaks on the Carl Robinson Situation,

BY SHAWN FRANCIS

At this morning’s practice in Oakdale, Toronto FC coach Preki made his first public statement today confirming the release of midfielder Carl Robinson from pre-season camp. The tough-tackling Welshman has parted ways with Toronto FC with Preki now stating that the fan-favorite’s $300K salary played a role in the decision. “It’s a case of the numbers, it’s a case of the salary cap”, he says. “It’s a case of everything”.

Up next for Robinson is a trip to Florida with the Red Bulls. If the former Welsh International does latch on in Harrison he is expected to battle with New York defensive stalwart Seth Stammler for playing time in coach Hans Backe’s preferred 4-4-2 formation, unless Stammler is bound for the trade block. Another potential by-product of this log jam could be a lower position in the pecking order for highly-touted rookie Tony Tchani; although he possesses impressive skill and size, he faced some criticism during the combine for what appeared to be a passing game limited to shorter dishes. Should he fall behind the two veterans in the depth chart don’t expect to see a rapid development of his game in 2010.
