Pre-Season Postcard: Matt Besler

Greetings from Kansas City!

We are just about to kick-off our preseason training. The first week is always exciting as most of the guys are ready to return and start up. It will be nice to get the “first week” nerves out of the way, as well as all the fitness testing we have to do.

During the offseason, I was able to spend a few weeks back at my alma matter, Notre Dame, and train with some of the current players. I really enjoyed my time there and also spent lots of time in the weight room, putting on some extra muscle. After visiting Notre Dame, I spent a week in Chicago. A lot of my friends and old teammates currently live there so it was nice to catch up with most of them. Although I took the offseason very seriously with training, I still managed to enjoy some leisure activities and take some time away from soccer.

I spent Christmas and New Year’s with family in Kansas City while still focusing on getting my fitness runs done. We got hit hard with a few snow storms that accumulated up to 15 inches!

There’s definitely a lot of hard work ahead this preseason, but I’m excited to start chipping away at returning to the playoffs.
